One of the most important aspects to keep in mind with any workable kitchen design, are the flow lines of how it will be used for food preparation.
Look at where you will store the food, wash and prepare it, where you will cook it, serve it and when the empty plates come back where will they go.
The ideal arrangement is to create a type of production line which provides you with efficient use of the available space so that you are not criss crossing all over the kitchen in order to use it.
The Work Triangle
This is a useful concept to help with the way your kitchen works.
Using this concept you place the sink at one end, the cook top at the other and the fridge at the 3rd point in a triangular pattern.
Using this idea as a gauge reflects the efficiency of the lay out.
The bigger any leg of the triangle is the further you will have to walk to use that cook top, fridge or sink.
However this is just a guide and some situations can require a totally different set up in order to achieve the best design workability for the area.
This is where getting professional advice is important and can save making costly mistakes in the long run.
(See How we do it).
Drawers & Roll Out Shelves
The use of draws and roll out shelves for storage instead of open cabinet space, will also increase your existing storage capacity, this is because you are able to bring the items to you instead of reaching in to pull them out and above existing stored items and shelves. Pull out fittings like these effectively add extra user friendly shelves to your cabinets and increase their spatial storage capacity.
Pull out Racks Baskets And Trays
When fitted these increase the kitchen efficiency especially when they are located near to the cook top area, and used to store the non refrigerated condiments, sauces, spices and ingredients and objects that you often use to cook with.
Although the addition of these space saving ideas will increase the overall cost of your project ,they are well worth taking into consideration, as when well placed they will increase the efficiency and workability of the end design.
